If possible, drive early in the day to avoid traffic, especially if you are driving from LA. DO NOT DRIVE THERE LATE AT NIGHT. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND THE PLACE IN THE DARK. It is about two hours past the border and three hours from San Diego.

YOU NEED A HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE: SUV OR TRUCK. DOES NOT HAVE TO BE 4X4
No RVs or Trailers will pass through.
Please coordinate with your people to carpool as much as possible.

DIRECTIONS

DIRECTIONS THROUGH MEXICALI (US boarder is open 24 hours)The safest route is through Calexico/Mexicali. The border is open 24 hours a day. Majority of the drive is on the US side, there are no check points and no toll ways. From interstate-5/805 head south and take I-8 east towards El Centro. Take highway 98 towards Calexico and turn right onto highway 111 going west towards the US/Mexico border. After going through the border, keep to your right hand lane and immediately turn right (sharp) onto Lopez Mateo (First Right) which is a one way street and make another right at the next intersection. Follow the road until it gets into blocks and after 6 blocks ( 6 stop signs), turn left on Colegio Militar. You will pass through several STOP signs going strait. I have attached a google map to this and also can be printed from http://www.blueinsomnia.com/mexicali.jpg After 2.5 miles, you will reach a round about, continue going strait on the same axis until the road merges with highway 2. Get on the highway 2 going north-west towards Tijuana. , After 13 miles, you will see the dried lakebed to your left. You will see the sign for Laguna Salada. You can't turn left at this point so continue driving for another minute until you can make a U-turn. Head back towards the Laguna Salada exit and turn right onto the dirt road leading to the lakebed. There is a sign that reads Pavarotti Sin Fronteras. This mostly good dirt road may include some rough areas and "washboard" which in some places can be avoided by steering to the extreme side or driving on the paralleling tracks off the road. THERE ARE USUALLY THREE TRAKCS, PICK THE MIDDLE ONE. Try not to slow down or stop in sandy spots. At 27.2 mi., upon passing the Italian olive plantation, turn right onto another graded dirt road signed "CANON de GUADALUPE" and go west. This last segment begins with 7 mi. of mostly good but increasingly winding dirt road, and ends with 0.6 mi. of primitive dirt road. At mile 7, after "INFORMATION" sign, bear right at fork. Slow down and maneuver carefully.IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUES-MUST READ
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE STOP FOR ANYONE FOR ANY REASON WHEN DRIVING ON THIS DIRT ROAD. UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM, DO NOT STOP FOR ANYONE. DO NOT SPEND THE NIGHT INTHE MIDDLE OF THE DRIED LAKE BED EITHER. THIS AREA IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH BANDITOS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.GPS COORDINATES 32 09 504 N X 115 46 224 W

From The Tecate Border
From Los Angeles and/or San Diego, Take I-5 south to Hwy. 94 east. Last good spot to Gas up! At approx. 40 mi., turn right and go south on Tecate Road (#188). It's about 1.8 mi. to the border-crossing (open 6 am to 11pm). Four blocks past the border, turn left on Avenida Benito Juarez (Mex.Hwy. 2), reset odometer, and go east, passing by Parque Hidalgo (Tecate's central park), which will be to your right.

Continue East & follow signs onto Hwy.2 - Cuota (new Toll Rd) approx. 40 mi., toward Mexicali. Pass through La Rumerosa Toll Booth & head down the newly paved winding mtn. road to the desert floor.

km29

At approx. 65.8 mi. (near mileage marker "km28"), pass the highway sign says "CANON DE GUADALUPE," and contineu driving for anothe mile until come to a highway sign says "LAGUNA SALADA", turn right onto a graded dirt road, reset odometer, and go south. Smaller signs along side the dirt road will confirm you are on course TO CANYON DE GUADALUPE. This is a smooth dirt road, but don't drive too fast as unexpected bumps are frequent. Stay on the middle track and follow it through.

This mostly good dirt road may include some rough areas and "washboard" which in some places can be avoided by steering to the extreme side or driving on the paralleling tracks off the road.

Slow down and maneuver carefully. Follow the signs to "ARTURO'S CAMPO #1." wher we will greet you and have you park your car at tehlot. Shuttles will carry your passengers and your gear to your designated camp sites

Location

About the Canyon, links to the official websites and information about the area.

SOLD OUT

Admission to the event is $95/person for all 5 days of the event including parking. The $15 increase from last year is due to the addition of an extra day and, of course, the land owners increasing the rental price on us this year to cover expenses of rebuilding the canyon afte the fire.
If you are camping with a group, make SURE to talk to your friends and decide on a group name that you can put in the NOTES section of the Paypal purchase. That way we can be sure to assign you to a camp with your friends.
In an effort to keep the event as meaningful and grass roots as possible, the maximum capacity of the event will be between 300-450 people. Once that capacity has been reached no further tickets will be sold.
Campsites have varying amenitites and will be assigned based on who buys tickets first. Most campsites are for between 12 and 16 people so plan accordingly when coordinating with groups for camping.

 PRICE STRUCTURE

Camping, parking, entertainment, Talent fees, etc.

This year we have extended it to five days (March 6-10) and just like any other year, we are keeping the price the same: $15/day = $75/person

Operation Resurrection: On September 19th, both sides of Canyon De Guadalupe was caught on fire. Pretty much all the palapas and pipelines were destroyed along with all the leaves and trees. The oasis leading up to the waterfall is still unaffected, but Mario's and Ernesto's camp sites were wiped out. I have been communicating with the family to assess the damage and send some help and money to restore the place. OUR MISSION IS TO RESTORE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE ON FEBRUARY 5-10. Fortunately, Fuente Eterno will still happen and most of the leaves have already come back. The main concern is to get the pipelines back in order. Saynt and I along with our crew of builders are working on a plan to go down there and help out. We will be heading down there with a group of skilled builders and handymen from our community to help rebuild the Oasis. We are adding $20 to our price ticket to finish this task.

AUTO INSURANCE
Mexican Auto Insurance is strongly suggested. Google search for Mexican Insurance and you can by online very cheap. Alternatively, you can purchase Mexican insurance at the border for very cheap. Be sure to leave teh contract carefully. If you get into an accident, make sue to call the Mexicn Insurance before leaving Mexico. The best website is http://www.mexpro.com/FEDERALESTravelers to Guadalupe Canyon will encounter 1 or 2 Federales (Mexican Army) check points up on return to US. They are looking for the illegal guns and drugs. They may want to look in your car. Be polite and you will soon be on your way. I have never had any reports of unprofessional behavior by the Federales. There are usually no checkpoints on the way to the canyons.

Toll Way
From the Tocate border, it is about a two hour drive to the canyons. You want to follow the signs to Mexicali (highway 2) and continue on the Toll way. DON'T TAKE THE FREE WAY (Libre). There are two toll booths on the way. The first is $4.75 and the second is $1.25. Make sure to bring enough change for both ways.
